Making New Friends

Tonight we met with friends of some of our geocaching buddies. Emily suggested we get together with an old college buddy of hers and we sure are glad we did! We had dinner with Matt, Adriana, Philip, and Sophia at their apartment in downtown Kiev. We had some delicious fried fish, potato cakes, and all the fixin's. It was really great to have dinner in an actual home after our 37th day away. Our hosts were awesome and very, very friendly. Matt and Kelly have the same alma mater - UL - so they could console each other after last night's basketball loss. It was unfortunate, though, that we couldn't spend longer together - our hosts are flying out tomorrow for London and we figured we needed to get our little boy home. Hopefully our paths will cross again and we can spend more time together. Daniel and Philip became fast friends in spite of the language difference. It was a GREAT evening and something we really needed after not getting the passport again today. It was just too bad that Gayla couldn't join us as she was tied up with personal business.

It's looking more and more like Jason will be going home Wednesday without Kelly and Daniel who will follow shortly after. It's absolutely not what we want, but we're being forced into it...

Tomorrow, we're going to head to the US Embassy so Jason can sign off on his portion of the paperwork for the visa. We will also get Daniel's photo taken for the medical file and probably do a couple of more geocaches.

Please pray that the passport comes through tomorrow. This one paper has really thrown a wrench in the works. Know that everyone is in our thoughts and prayers - particularly Uncle Bob and Foffee.

First order of business. You are now parents. Congratulations. We've been following the progress everyday. We are very excited about meeting Daniel.

Now to get your first taste of unsolicited parenting advice - you're first responsibility is to see that your wife and child get home safely. They need you more than Ford does and whatever financial reward you get is not worth whatever trama you may be exposing Kelly and Daniel to on this return flight. Keep thinking big picture because you cannot get this experience back, yet you will have years worth of time at Ford. It is just a week.

With great love from overly protective Aunt Jennifer.
Now straighten up!

We are just loving being included in the Karlen family adoption adventure! Every story, with such excellent detail, makes me feel like I'm watching this happen! Thank you for such a gift.

...praying for expediency for the final paperwork to happen so your family can travel together. We'll cover him in prayer for travel Wed., unless we hear differently and we're believing it will happen.

Check out the sermon from March 22...utterly amazing! And you'll be so blessed by it. Have some tissues...

We are continuing to pray everyday for you three, realizing it has been a long time since you left.
We hope you're homesick cause we're 'away' sick without you!

Love to the Karlen family,
Alice

I'm so glad to hear that you're getting along so well with Daniel. And the CIRCUS! It sounds like a real treat, except for maybe the huge rats!
Jason, don't be too anxious to come back. Both plants are down this week and several people are on vacation for Spring Break. There is also an ECB nightmare going on. I think that M.W. is still licking his wounds from a couple of meetings they had last week!
Of course you know that we are all praying for you to get Daniel's paperwork completed and get home safely. Take care!

This has been an incredible journey that you have shared with us and like your other posters, I almost feel like I am there with you. I can wait to see every day what you all have done and are planning on doing..

I am saying my prayers that all three of you will be able to travel together. It could be an exciting time for Daniel on his first airplane ride. From all of your prior post he sounds like he is ready to tackle any new adventure with him momma and poppa.. He sounds like a full all around boy that is gonna have to much fun when he gets home..

Fords misses you but we are down this week, so take care and hurry home as a family.

Much love and prayers to all three of you,

Dahbee & Dave

I've been following your blog everyday; I usually save it for the end of the work day so that when things get crazy I have something uplifting to brighten my spirits. That being said, everything at work is fine. Although I can use Jason's help I'm holding the fort. There have been no "huge" issues that I can't handle. Please think about your decision and know that all is well here.

Now for just a little advice. When I traveled with my children at that age, taking-off on an airplane was a challenge. The kids ears pop and they don't know how to equalize the pressure so they fuss. Take some lollypops with you. As soon as you take-off give Daniel a lollypop to suck-on. It will do the trick and he'll be happy at the same time. By the way, my imaginary daughter is very interested in meetng Daniel. She is quite taken....karyn
