Bike Ride

We decided to enjoy the rare nice weather this weekend and go out for a family bike ride, with a bit of geocaching thrown in....

So, I have a question for you....at what age should the training wheels come off? I am totally OK with the fact that he still has them. He has been through a ton of changes in the past year and a half so I don't care if he keeps them on. I am just curious - what's the right age? How will it go down - does he ask to take them off or do we bring it up?

I don't think there is an "age". Colton wanted his trainers off asap (he was 7). Aizley was completely fine with hers still on. We decided last summer, when her knees were touching her ears on her small bike), that she had to learn to ride a big girl bike before Santa would bring her a new, bigger bike. She was 9 1/2 at the time.

Joe started on something called a skuut. wooden bike without pedals. basically just scooting along and lifting up his feet when he wanted to go fast. gives great practice at balance. a guy at the bike shop said you could do that with any bike by taking off the crank and chain.
